He could feel his eyes water and he hated it. "George is great. He's great for a few laughs, but can you honestly sit there and tell me that you think I could go and talk to him like I do you? Think about this conversation we've been having. I couldn't go to George's shop and have it with him. George is a friend. He's a friend that' happens to be my uncle, not my uncle that happens to be a friend. That's our relationship, Uncle Ron, and it's as great as the one I have with George. Some of this discussion had been funny, but some has been personal, coming straight from the heart.
"Sure, I'll protect James if I had to. I'll protect anybody with the last name of Potter/Weasley because you are my family. I think I may have been taken that for granted." He paused for a moment. "You want to know something? I was talking to a friend of mine shortly after I had my accident. Some of the conversation was about her not knowing who her father was and you know what I was thinking? The fact that I complain about mine so much when I can't see myself without one. I can't see myself without any of you. We have different personalities, different relationships, but we are still a family and we are a close group too. Remember earlier I said we were stuck with each other? We aren't. We could cut ties, never talk or see each other again. We don't because... what's more important than family? Honestly, I don't think anything is."
He fell silent, thinking. He was pretty sure he had covered most of it and more. "Do I want to try and have a better father/son relationship? Yes, I'm willing to try. That's why I'm asking you for help because I can't do it on my own. I can't get Dad to listen to me. You have a better chance of getting through to him because you are so close."
He shook his head. "People look at me and they instantly think that I'm not listening and they get mad about it. Mum's a great example of that. I'll admit that I do tune people out, but alot of that is due to the fact that I don't understand what you are trying to say. The times during the conversation that I didn't understand what you were saying, I was only half listening. I get frustrated over trying to get what you are saying to connect in my head that I just give up.
"Uncle Ron, I'm a stupid kid. I say that I want to be treated like a man, but to tell you the truth, I don't think I'm ready for it and that's perfectly fine. I'm thirteen. I have the rest of my life to be a grown up, but only a few short years left to be a kid. I should be enjoying it."
He smiled sadly. "I will never force someone to stay and talk to me if they don't want to, so go ahead and leave. I'll sit here and keep myself company and eventually, I'll go back to school. Go home, give Libby a dog biscuit for me and talk to her because as long as you are petting them, dogs will listen to anything. Just let me say a few more things before you leave. I'm sorry for every stupid thing that I did in this conversation, for every stupid thing that I did in the past and for all the stupid things that I will do in the future and, yes, there will be alot it."
He paused again, thinking about everything that he just said. He smiled when he realized something. "Can I ask you something? How does it feel to do something that hasn't been done before? I meant everything of what I just said, from the first word to the last. Uncle Ron, because you were patient enough with me and you didn't give up, I think you got through to me. So... thanks." He smiled again, a little bit more joyful than the last one. "And don't worry, Uncle Ron, I will go back to school... eventually."[/size][/blockquote]
