Julian loved cake. Anybody who knew him well, anybody who knew him from his time at Hogwarts, could probably have guessed that. Of all the sweets and sugar that he ingested, he probably most enjoyed cake. If you had to have a particular kind, than strawberry shortcake, complete with some extra strawberries on the side. However, he would settle for most kinds if he was in the mood and needed some kind of sugar in that form to get him through the day. After all, he was of the firm belief that the body needed glucose, sugar, to keep the brain functioning and so he needed a lot to keep up with his brain.
It was the middle of the day, so it wasn't as if he was sneaking out in the middle of the night (though he did do that at times). And he was not skipping a cla*s to do this, so he was safe to be heading down to the kitchens to find some cake. He hoped the House Elves were no too busy with their work for the afternoon. After all, he had built up a pretty good relationship with them and would feel terrible if he was making their lives much more difficult because of his visit. But he felt the need to at least see if he could get his hands on some of the cake that they always seemed to have ready in the kitchens. The cravings were going to drive him nuts (well, not visibly but he would hurt on the inside for it) all afternoon if he did not get something before the next cla*s.
And so, dutifully tickling the pear that granted entrance to the Hogwarts Kitchens, he walked in to be greeted by the elves who were there and whom he had grown to know well in his five years at the school. When he had settled down into the seat in the back of the Kitchen with some strawberry shortcake, he was very pleased to have decided to come down. Privacy, or at least privacy from being around humans, was nice. And for the moment he could embrace it and enjoy his time down in the Kitchens without them. He wondered vaguely how long he would have before someone came down here and disrupted it. It would be truly unfortunate when they did. However, they were hardly a private place and so he would have to be accepting of it.

I did it again... Scorpius thought as he walked through the halls. He skipped a few cla*ses so he could works his way down through the school and into the kitchen. He’d been so busy with everything and his cla*ses that he has to make a few cla*ses spendable as he made his way into the kitchen to get a snack so he could make it the rest of the day. He was hoping that he’d be able to make it for at least one meal but the last few days have keeping him busy with everything else that there have been a few times where he couldn’t make it down to the hall for lunch. He always got breakfast but even that gets interrupted sometimes. He knew that if his sisters ever found out, that he’d be in a lot of trouble. He walked into the kitchen without even looking or paying any attention as he tossed his books to the side while spinning his wand in his other hand.
“Hey, you, I’ll get my usual!” he stated in a more demanding tone then anything. He turned to walk over to a table when he grabbed hold of his wand and looked over Julian. He looked at the man as if he was an alien for a moment before he walked over to the table. He thought for a moment as he looked at the man. “Ravenclaw,” he said, “Right?” He questioned as he pointed his wand at him before he spun it around his fingers a few more times. He took a seat before he put his wand away. Just as he sat down at the table the elf placed a plate down and scurried off. He smirked as he looked down at the elf as it took off. He glanced to Julian for a moment with his smirk still stuck to him. He turned back and started to pick at his plate.
“So, what is a ravenclaw, doing down here at this hour?” he questioned. “Don’t you have some books to read or cla*ses to be in?” he enquired as he picked at the little plate of a*sorted fruit.

Julian had figured it would only be a matter of time before someone else entered the kitchens and broke the quiet and privacy, and he had been right. However, he certainly had not been expecting quite who it was. A Slytherin? No, it wasn't that it was a Slytherin in particular, but that it was Scorpius Malfoy. He had never had contact with the Slytherin, nor had he ever really wanted to. Well, it didn't look like he was going to be granted that privilege. Even though he had not noticed him just yet, he figured it was simply a matter of time before he did so, and then Julian figured he would have to deal with him in some way. There was very little doubt in his mind on that subject.
If he hadn't been so stoic in most situations and would actually let himself show emotion, he would have physically cringed at the way the older boy treated the House Elves. Julian had always treated them in a kind, friendly manner which was returned with happiness and general well being on both parts. It certainly had made his visits down her quite lively. So he was not happy with Scorpius for the manner in which he ordered them around. But alas, that was just how some people did things. He could not make people act kindly towards House Elves, but could only do his best to treat them kindly.
The boy treated him in much the same manner, but Julian showed no sign of being effected in any way by the fact that he was very demanding, or by the fact that he had pointed a wand at him. If he wanted to be rude, he could be rude. Julian would respond, but he would not be in any way any warmer towards him than he would be towards anyone else. Except for Poppy, but she was special to him and would never be put anywhere near the same level on Julian's scale of people as Scorpius.
"Yes, I am a Ravenclaw," Julian responded. "And no matter what amount of studying a person does, they cannot fulfill their full potential without food and fuel to supply the brain with the necessary energy. So getting food is a perfectly acceptable way to broaden academic horizons," he said. Julian continued to eat his cake after answering, watching the boys with piercing almost black eyes. Scorpius' rank or blood meant nothing to him, and so he was not intimidated. He would merely maintain the conversation.

Scorpius watched the boy from the corners of his eyes as he started to pick through the fruit. He could tell that the boy was sizing him up and the boy knew who he was. Part of him he found that he wanted to know what really was going on with the boy. He smirked as he thought that maybe the boy figured he’d steal the boys cake. He went back to picking at his fruit before he glanced over, ”you want any?” he questioned. He was use to being starred at, watched like a hawk and drooled over that having Julian watch him was nothing. He did have to wonder though, if the boys eyes were naturally that dark or if it was just his presence that brought that out in the boy, none the less, he was amused by the situation.
”This seems to be the place of business.” he said as he figured that the past few times of entering the kitchen for something to munch on he has always ran into someone there. Although, he knew this experience wasn’t going to be as interesting as his last encounter in the kitchen had been. He picked up on the fact that Julian didn’t seem to impressed with his manners or the way he treated the house elves. He glanced to them then back to Julian. ”Don’t like something?” he questioned in a low dry placid like tone. He wondered if he’d be lectured by Julian or if the boy will just let it go.
He smirked as the boy finally spoke. ”I was beginning to think you were a mute.” he stated in a calm tone. He couldn’t argue with the boys logic. It made sense and he had a point. He nodded slightly, ”It appears as though you have a point and I can’t disagree.” he stated as he started to realize that the boy wasn’t intimidated at all. He smirked. He was always amused by those who knew they should fear him yet they didn’t he started to wonder if maybe he was losing his touch. ”I’m a*suming from your position you don’t want me present and yet you seem fine to converse with Satans child.” he said frigidly. ”What are you a fourth year? Fifth year?” he questioned, ”You seem to know who I am, what I am, and my rank around here, yet you seem not to fear me. Care to enlighten me on why?”

Magnus sauntered into the kitchen in hopes of finding something sweet to eat. He heard who he thought was Scorpius and one other talking about something. “Who is this other voice?” he said to himself. He walked towards to voices only to confirm that indeed it was Scorpius. “Hey Scorpius, how is it going”, asked Magnus. Hoping to get a nicer response Magnus offered him some cherries. He then turned to the other kid and asked, “Who are you, I don’t recall ever seeing you around here”. Magnus offered the strange kid some candy. “Hey Scorpius I am here to make a cake, I may as well make one for you as well”, Magnus said happily.
Magnus then started to rummage through all the cupboards to find the ingredients he needed to make a cake for himself. “I need sugar, flour, baking stuff, ummm some vanilla, oooh and chocolate chips to add the bit of yummyness to it”, he stated. Magnus then realized there was no mixer so he used a spell to mix all the ingredients together. “Time to add the secret ingredient”, he said to himself. Magnus secretly put a few drops of Babbling Beverage into the cake being made for Scorpius, then began to mix some more. When the mixing was done he put each batter into a pan, and put an S in Scorpius’s. After baking the cakes Magnus wrote Scorpius name on his cake and handed it to him. “Here I hope you like it, consider it a sign of friendship”, he said.
Then Magnus turned to the strange kid and asked, “what are you doing down here at this hour, don’t you know its bed time?” Magnus sat down at the table and began to eat his cake. "Scorpius why don’t you try your cake."

Julian continued to watch Scorpius carefully, dark eyes not leaving the older boy. It could be considered quite obvious that Julian did not trust him and was not willing to leave himself vulnerable to any sort of a*sault. One never knew, especially with the head of the gang here and he, being an ex-member of Dumbledore's Army. Not too mention Julian was not one of the likely candidates for any award having to do with trusting people. There was a small group of people he genuinely trusted, and Scorpius Malfoy didn't fit into that category.
"No thank you," Julian responded. "I am fine with what I have." Julian continued to watch Scorpius, though his fork still managed to find the slice of cake he was in possession of and bring small bites of cake to his mouth. He would have preferred it if Scorpius had gotten his fruit and left, leaving Julian to have the kitchen all to himself again. He had no desire to have much of a conversation with him, but seeing as he didn't have an intention of leaving he supposed for the sake of relieving awkwardness he would respond.
"People must eat, and during school hours when it is not a day to visit Hogsmeade this is the only place where we are able to procure the food to eat if you do not already possess it," Julian responded. "So it is natural people might meet here, if more than one person at a given time feels the need for repast." Julian was aware that Scorpius had picked up on his distaste over his treatment of House Elves. His query proved that, or at least Julian would suspect so. Either that or Scorpius was accidentally believed something was wrong when it was. Julian's eyes narrowed a fraction of an inch before returning to their normal size. "No, there is nothing wrong on my end at all," he said, his voice unreadable in the emotions department.
It was Julian's turn to smirk at the comment about being mute. "I am by no means a mute. I just choose when and where I converse carefully, and with whom."
Julian watched him carefully as he spoke the next thing. Was it possible that Scorpius could read him just a bit better than most other students did? Did his wall of protection break down in the midst of him? It certainly did not make him feel any more comfortable or make him happy, though he did decide he would answer Scorpius' query. "I find it in my interest to converse with people of reasonable inteligence, of which I'm sure you'd place yourself past reasonable. I also would not go so far as to call you Satan's child, for your father is, or was, Draco Malfoy, who is not Satan unless he has left this detail out. And I am in fifth year," he responded, voice even and hardly showing any inflection of emotion.
"I do not fear you because I simply find no reason to do so. You are human, as am I. You are entitled to no more respect than I am. Your title means nothing to me, for I am not of the Gang and therefore, frankly, do not care. I see no reason to give you the benefit of fear when you are no bigger than others on this campus. You may have been given a rank, but I do not acknowledge it."
Julian took a few moments to grant Scorpius a very dark stare, before turning when someone else entered the kitchen. The boy who entered was odd, even by Julian's standards. Well, at least Julian thought so. And he had started to make two cakes without even acknowledging that Julian was there. Julian merely sat content with eating his cake for the time being. It seemed as though there might be some foul play, and so he was quite glad he was not involved.
Julian granted Magnus his stare when Magnus referred to him and asked him a question. He almost let out a sigh, but managed to keep himself in check as he formulated his answer. "I was not aware that I had a 'bed time' enforced by another student. However, even if I was aware, I do not sleep and therefore need not be concerned with a bed time," he said.

Scorpius watched Julian and was going to respond when he heard a voice that made him think of nails on chalk boards, even though the guy’s voice wasn’t at all squeaky. He looked over to the door from Julian when he heard his name. He had the sudden urge to bang his head on the table when he realized who it was. “It was going fairly okay.” He replied in a low tone trying to keep his voice neutral. He wasn’t too interested in Magnus had shown up to offer, make, or give away. He turned back to Julian as he leaned on one arm while sitting at the table and started to pick through the fruit. He did have to admit that he wasn’t here gathering any sort of information so it really didn’t matter but at the same time he started to wonder if Magnus was sent around him to punish him for something that he didn’t do yet. He glanced up at Julian who he was trying to read and figure out. At least he didn’t lose much when he was distracted. He watched Julian eat his cake from the corner of his eyes while he also kept his eyes on Magnus.
He thought about what Julian had to say as he did what he could to ignore the babbling coming from Magnus and the sounds of him with all the ingredients. “Point well taken.” He said to Julian, “I usually leave the grounds regardless but when I’m roaming and I missed a meal sometimes this is the closest place.” He added with a vague smirk. He glanced over to Magnus from the corners of his eyes. He knew that something wasn’t right or co sure about what he was doing. He watched Julian’s features but kept more of an eye on Magnus not trusting the man he had been earlier introduced to. He looked back and knew that he had missed it as Julian now seemed unreadable as far as emotions. He knew that he’d have to watch him more carefully but with Magnus here there was no chance of that happening.
He looked at the cake then more towards Magnus. He smirked slightly before he took the cake and handed it off to Julian. “Help yourself.” He said He looked back to Magnus, “Thanks, but I don’t intake that sort of food.” He stated with a hint of amusement. “I also have a feeling that you may have done something with it therefore I choose to deny it for a second reason. Create one out of plaster and other arts and crafts material and I might accept it.” He said in a more clever tone. He looked back to Julian, “You are a smart man for choosing when, where and with whom.” He said in a dry tone only to smirk, “No I wouldn’t place myself past reasonable as I’m more than certain we are almost even on the grounds of intellect, especially since you are only a year behind me when in truth you should be two.” He stated while his smirk grew as he thought about the Satan’s child and Draco. “You would not be the first to call me Satan’s child but no Draco was nothing like. If he was then he’d surely been able to kill someone. Being that he wasn’t ever was whereas I have committed a few places myself in a different position.”
He glanced over to Magnus before glancing back to Julian. He had to admit he’s heard that a few times now that no one fears him. He was pretty sure it was due to the fact that he is a father and backed off a lot of things but he also knew that had to change now. “Fair enough.” He said as he thought about it all before he shook his head, “If you’re so worried about bed, why are you here?” he questioned Magnus.

Magnus sighed as he had to listen to the little kid squeak. “Yo Julian it was only a suggestion that should go to bed, I’m not really in the position to be telling you what to do seeing Scorpius is here. And well he is probably here for a certain reason and I know it’s not me.” Magnus took another bite of his cake. “You know if you got some sleeping issues you outta go get that looked into, you could have scabies or something creepy like that.” Magnus shuttered at the thought of Julian being infested with bugs, there creepy and crawly gets all over the place. Perhaps I should warn Scorpius if the impending danger.
Magnus turned away from Julian for a moment and noticed Scorpius was keeping a close eye on him. He knew that Scorpius still wasn’t very fond of him so he decided to tell him the truth about the cake. Magnus jotted down on a piece of parchment what he had done and handed it to Scorpius. Magnus went back to his cake and took another bite of it and looked toward Julian. “Well boys what bring you down to the kitchen at this hour? Is Scorpius trying to recruit you to the gang? Or is it the other way around, Julian is considering join the DA or anti-war coalition.” Magnus knew Julian was a Ravenclaw, so him joining the gang was slim to none seeing them ravens were all goody two shoes.
He watched Scorpius as Scorpius handed the “fixed” cake to Julian and offered him to dig in. Magnus chuckled to himself hoping Julian would actually eat it. “I didn’t know you liked arts and craft Scorpius, perhaps I’ll made you something nice someday and we can be friends.” Magnus went to the cupboards and shuffled around some pulling down a bowl, corn starch and a jug of water. “You guys got to check this out its cool.” Magnus poured some corn starch and water in to the bowl and mixed it some. He then took his fist and punched it; it seemed as is it was hard as a rock. “That is not all” he said taking down a goblet. He then poured the mixed into the gla*s as it was like a liquid. “See that was kind of neat eh?” Magnus looked at Scorpius as he was playing with his weird concoction. “I don’t sleep usually at night, that is what cla*s time is for.” Magnus knew for sure Scorpius was going to tell Kita that one.
